BFCSS & Benefactor Statement 22/04/23

Bury FC Supporters Society and the Bury FC Benefactors wish to make the following joint statement.

Since the Benefactors and the Government grant enabled Gigg Lane to be saved, the Society and Benefactors have worked tirelessly to bring Bury FC back to life at Gigg Lane in the form of a fan-run club that will benefit the whole community. There have been many twists and turns but we are on the verge of achieving our aim – Bury FC playing once again at its lifelong home.

There are 2 weeks left for members to cast their vote and many are still yet to do so. Members will continue to be reminded of the importance of voting and the recommendation of the Society, the Benefactors and external bodies is to vote FOR amalgamation.

Social media can be helpful but also divisive and unhelpful. This vote is not just a re-run of the previous vote and we request members take on board the following:-

1 – The Society has now publicly stated its support of the amalgamation.

2 – The Society has advised there is no viable plan where a new football club survives in parallel with Bury AFC.

3 – An amalgamation enables The Bury Football Club Company Ltd to have a football team called Bury FC playing at Gigg Lane just as it has since 1885. Only a yes vote achieves this.

4 – It is not Bury AFC moving in or being given the keys.

With another no vote BFCSS and the stadium company likely becomes insolvent before next season, maybe as soon as the end of May. This is not only about the government, FA, AFC etc. the cold hard reality is this venture is loss-making month on month and will not survive to next season even if the FA’s stance changed.

Without the capital investment to implement a sustainable ground the likelihood is failure of the existing business. Wanting the investment is not greed, it is required to put in the necessary infrastructure in place to enable the football club to be self-sustainable and to provide a community asset long term for the town.

We understand football is all about passion and heart, we are all Bury fans too. A no vote destroys the dreams of generations of fans, past and future. It achieves nothing positive and prevents the re-birth of our great club, the club that was ripped away from us in a heartbeat. We now have the opportunity to restart the club, and as fans, run it in a sustainable manner. This is our last chance. Vote YES.
