We welcome the announcement of a 2nd merger vote and as before we wholeheartedly support a positive vote to merge.
In the previous vote we highlighted how neither Society can prosper in competition with each other.
Since then Bury AFC has enjoyed a competitive and successful season however the shortcomings of sharing a ground have been clear with multiple games postponed. A tenant in a stadium will always play second fiddle to the landlord team.
In parallel the stadium has enjoyed excellent community use through the commitment of volunteers. However, this has been a hand to mouth existence from a financial perspective and it is not long term sustainable.
The majority of members supported a merger previously and we’d encourage those members to vote again in the same way. Those that could have voted but did not, please do so, your contribution matters to the club and the town.
If you previously voted against a merger, we ask that you reconsider in light of the new goodwill between both sides and the considerable risk that the stadium will be lost and Bury FC gone forever. We can work together towards a prosperous future of Bury FC and we urge you to join this effort.
Please also be sure that having a successful Bury team playing at Gigg Lane again will give a real boost to the whole town and its economy. It will give more life back to so many local businesses.
Finally, we’d like to recognise and congratulate the efforts of Bury Football Club Supporters Society and Shakers Community Society Boards who have found common ground and a desire to prioritise unity.
Thank you,
