We saw the return of football to Gigg Lane on Sunday for the first time since May 2019, with Bury Football Club Foundation Ladies v Fleetwood Town Wrens gracing the turf.
A maximum crowd of 499 witnessed a superb performance from both sides, but Bury came out on top with a 3-0 victory in what was a momentus occasion for everyone inside the stadium. Confetti, balloons and banger sticks were given to supporters, who helped create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Lucy Golding scored the first goal of the afternoon, having been the last Bury FC Women’s player to score at Gigg Lane in 2019. Kimberley Tyson grabbed her 39th goal, whilst Sophie Jones chalked up her 30th.
And all this was on Bury FC’s 137th birthday!
