Gigg Lane Pitch Update 04/2022

What a difference a month makes!

A pitch update on the turf at Gigg Lane.

Over the last month works with Contractors RC Pitch Solutions, Groundsman Mike Curtis, Volunteer Chris Harding and Operations Director Daniel Bowerbank have put the plan into motion to get the pitch to a playable surface.

Vertidraining, raking, seeding, fertilising, and some good growing weather has brought some life back into it, some 16 months after Mike completed his final cut at the ground due to the administrators removing the equipment at the stadium.

As of yesterday 7th April we marked and tested the goal sockets as we continue to get the pitch ready for games to be played.

The scheduled works will now continue and there is a maintenance plan to enable Gigg Lane Stadium to become a self-sufficient stadium as soon as the ground can generate income.

Gigg Lane, the home of football in Bury since 1885 will now become a huge part once again in the community from grassroots teams, girls and womens teams, boys and mens teams, to local cup finals, college groups and other sports should the calendar allow for these events.

Richard Clarkson, Managing Director of RC Pitch Solutions said, “Works have been progressing following the outlined plan, we are happy with where we are with the pitch works to-date and we will continue to get the foundations in place to enable a great playing surface for the town to use.”

Daniel Bowerbank, Operations Director of Gigg Lane added, “What a difference a month makes! Over the next few weeks we will be announcing the pitch usage schedule and how to book to play on the pitch.

We anticipate that the pitch will be one with a huge demand from community and sport groups as well as local businesses as we look to tie the borough of Bury together with such a facility.”
