An agreement has now been signed for the upcoming 2022/23 season for the title-winning Bury FC Foundation Women to grace the pitch at Gigg Lane for all their home fixtures.
Bury FC Women had a 100% record at Gigg for their last 3 games, as they beat Fleetwood Town Wrens, Clitheroe Wolves and also Accrington Stanley Women who are two divisions higher.
A record 665 attendance for a women’s fixture at Gigg was set for the title decider against Clitheroe Wolves last Sunday, with a superb average attendance over the 3 games of 535.
Thank you to the 2021/22 sponsors PPSL Direct, Checkpoint, Bohairmia, The Albion Clayton-Le-Moors and kit manufacturer Macron.
Daniel Bowerbank, Director of Operations at Gigg Lane said, “A little over 7 weeks ago, we could only hope we could get Gigg into shape to hold football matches, film shoots and also to see Bury FC Foundation Women lift their trophy!
To see the community backing the ladies with a record 665 for the title decider against Clitheroe Wolves last Sunday was an outstanding turnout in what was a historic game.
We can now announce that a Service Level Agreement has been signed for the upcoming 2022/23 season for Bury FC Foundation Women to play all their home games at Gigg Lane.”
Diana Golding, Chair of Bury FC Foundation said, “The last few weeks have been fantastic for our women’s first team. Playing at Gigg Lane has raised our profile in the community, and the backing we have received has been superb.
Back in May 2019 having secured promotion we were devastated to then have it taken away due to the downfall of Bury Football Club, which was out of our hands.
We didn’t give up. We carried on, rebuilt & even with the set backs of Covid and the disruption to football, we knew we would be back and be on the promotion trail yet again. Here we are three years on and our dreams are coming true. We have got our first promotion and we did it in front of a record crowd at Gigg Lane. To continue playing in the stadium next season will only see us grow further and we’ll be aiming for another promotion. We are delighted that we are going to continue our football in this special place at the heart of Bury, with the backing its community.”
Colin Platt, Bury FC Foundation Women’s manager added, “What a season, playing our last 3 home games at Gigg Lane! To lift the League Champions’ trophy on the title-deciding game of the season in front of hundreds of Bury fans was fantastic!
We now start to plan for next season, and what better way to start – knowing we will be back at Gigg Lane for next season’s home games in front of the Gigg Lane faithful who cheered us on, and celebrated with us towards the end of this season.
Hopefully we can repay this belief again next season and push for another
League title! The players have the passion and the desire.
